TOP FOUNDATIONS DATA VISUALIZATIONS

My team wanted to take a critical look at the 4 wealthiest philanthropic foundations in the US (Gates, Ford, Getty and Robert Wood Johnson) and their board members, to see if the promise behind big donated money is really as social conscious as it seems, or is it social-washing?

MIDDLE EAST FOOD SUPPLY

A comparison between annual quantities of food available for human consumption in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories (West Bank and the Gaza Strip) from 1996—2011. The information is based on the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization’s Food Balance Sheets (FBS) and the USDA’s Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The data is displayed in caloric value per person per day, and juxtapositioned to dietary recommendations and caloric value of familiar food items, in order to give viewers a better sense of what the values mean.

ACRI BUDGET CUTS CAMPAIGN

The Association for Civil Rights in Israel contracted me to design an infographics based media campaign to protest cuts proposed by the government for the 2013-2014 budget.  The target audience was defined as middle class Israelis, not necessarily those that would be impacted by the cuts but those who have the majority of voting power.

I wanted to frame data from the National Census about health, education and food spending so that the average Israeli could understand and empathize with those families whose ability to sustain basic vital necessities would be impacted by the cuts. I contrasted and compared and used a realist visual language, to evoke feelings of familiarity of everyday life and really bring the message home for the viewers.

The campaign was widely shared and generated many social media conversations around the meaning of the data.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING SALAD

Dr. Emily Silverman, an Israeli professor and expert on affordable housing, lead an Affordable Housing Leadership Program for municipal leaders along with the Ministry of Housing and JDC Israel. I designed an infographic handout for the participants that could guide them through the thinking process behind custom tailoring affordable housing programs for their specific needs. We went with a salad bar metaphor, to convey how assembling an adequate program is a matter of choosing what you need and want, according to your unique circumstances.
